ESD Rubber Tile: Installation

Architectural Rubber Tile // Flex-Floor Rubber Tile

Moisture Barrier Information Warning about moisture barriers

Staticworx® is not responsible for any floor installation failures associated with unaddressed pre-existing site conditions like vapor transmission, moisture permeation, contaminated concrete and damaged subfloors. Always determine if there is a vapor barrier below concrete subfloors before beginning any flooring installation.

All subfloors should be tested for moisture using ASTM test methods. For information about moisture and a complete list of ASTM test methods for determining potential moisture problems visit http://Staticworx® .com/articles/articles-moisture-barrier.htm.

Architectual ESD Rubber Tile Installation:

BEFORE YOU START:

1. Check the order for accuracy before you begin installation.

2. Do not mix different batches of color within close proximity.

3. Be sure that all adhesives and accessories are site conditioned at room temperature two (2) days prior to installation. Ideal temperature for installation and optimum curing would be 68 °F ± 5°F.

4. Do not stack pallets.

5. Store in a weather-tight enclosure.

6. Do not stack tiles more than 150 high, as originally packaged.

7. Staticworx® EC and Staticworx® SD Rubber flooring is packed back-to-back, face-to-face. Always handle this way.

Rubber tile installation exampleSUBFLOOR/WOOD

Single Plywood - This type of subfloor construction should be installed according to EWA “Engineered Wood Association” (formerly APA) specifications. EWA underlayment GRADE plywood should be used and installed according to EWA recommendations.

NOTE: Not recommended wood subfloors: tempered hardboard, untempered hardboards, particle board, wafer board, strand board, fire retarded plywood and board.

PRECAUTIONS/WOOD SUBFLOORS

Staticworx® EC and and Staticworx® SD Rubber flooring should not be laid on wood subfloors that are directly in contact with concrete subfloors on or below grade, even if built on sleepers. All suspended wood floors should have adequate underfloor ventilation.

NOTE: All responsibility for warranties and performance rests with the plywood manufacturer.

PREPARING THE SURFACE:

1. If an underlayment is not used, the surface of the suspended wood floor should be clean from paint, wax, varnish, oil or old adhesive.

2. If you want to install an underlayment over a floor with paint, wax, varnish, oil or old adhesive, a layer of 6 mill polyethylene sheeting should be installed between the subfloor and the new underlayment being installed.

3. All floors should be prepared for smoothness by sanding.

4. All nails should be countersunk or removed.

5. Loose boards should be nailed down or removed and replaced.

6. All gaps and uneven places must be filled.

SUBFLOOR/CONCRETE

Many different types of concrete subfloors exist, the only recommended concrete subfloor is American Concrete Institute “ACI” 302 Class 4, 5, & 6. Lightweight concrete, less than 115 lb/ft3 (1841 kg/m3), may have such low strength that it is unsuitable for covering with resilient flooring unless 1 in. (25 mm) or more of standard weight concrete, generally 140 lb/ft3 (2241 kg/m3) or more, is used as a topping.
